Rimini, August 25, 2026 – The motorcycle speedometer needle of the Bmw R1200 stuck at 180 kilometers per hour (the limit is 130) and no sign of braking. This was detected by the highway police who intervened Sunday morning on the A14 following the accident in which 76-year-old Maurizio De Panfilis and 65-year-old Antonella Doneda, driver and passenger (and couple in life) of the vehicle, lost their lives. The rear-end collision was very violent

The impact was very violent, so much so that Doneda was thrown about 16 meters. The 118 emergency personnel who arrived on the scene tried to resuscitate De Panfilis, who died on the spot. Hope for the 65-year-old ended at 13:10, the time when death was declared at the emergency room of Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, where she had been transported due to the serious injuries sustained in the crash.

Who Antonella and Maurizio were

The couple – both from Lombardy – were returning home from vacation. Doneda worked as a pharmacist in Pedrengo (Bergamo) in the family business. The town’s mayor recalls her to the local press as “a strong, distinguished woman, very passionate about her work” and very integrated into the community; she collaborated with the Municipality and the parish and through the family business also contributed to scholarships for deserving students. The 63-year-old leaves behind two children.

De Panfilis, originally from Sulmona and residing in Bergamo, was a motorcycle enthusiast. On his Facebook profile in 2016 he replied to a friend: “I still always ride a motorcycle, I still do beautiful tours like Turkey, Morocco, Norway, Europe in general. The last trip in 2015 was to Normandy and Brittany. The next will be Iceland.”
